JNPT will have a better road connectivity, as infra projects worth Rs 2024.91 crore are on a roll. The projects are scheduled to be completed by December 2017.
Three of the four packages, comprising infra projects, have been finalized
PM Modi had made JNPT his first port of call after assuming office last year. He laid the foundations stone for the SEZ and infra project as part of his ‘Make in India’ mission.
The mission includes two projects—the Rs 468 crore JNPT SEZ within the port area and the road connectivity project.
Sources at NHAI, the majority stake holder with 66% equity in the Mumbai JNPT Port Road Company Ltd executing the road infra project, said that the work on the packages will begin soon.
“The tender bids for expansion of NH 4B, SH 54 and Amre Marg along with two interchangers at Karal Phata and Gavan Phata have been grouped into four packages,” they said.
Once these projects are completed, vehicular movement of containers will ease and the south and south-west of the city will get better roads.
Traffic movement from Uran Phata to Kille junction on Palm Beach Road will also improve.
The two grade separators at Karal Phata and Gavan Phata will speed up lane interchange and connect the national and state roads. The upcoming Ulwe node will benefit from the Gavan Phata interchange .
Karal Phata interchanger will be the new highway to upcoming Dronagiri node.
A flyover at Kille junction will provide a smooth passage for container vehicles and other vehicles.
