NCP Corporator Ramesh Shinde elected as Standing Committee Chairman in NMMC
Shiv Sena corporators had to eat their words as NCP loyalist Ramesh Shinde was elected as NMMC Standing Committee Chairman smoothly.
The Shiv Sena corporators had to eat their own words as no magic took place and NCP’s Ramesh Shinde was elected as NMMC Standing Committee Chairman with ease by a majority of 11 votes. The Shiv Sena contestant Dilip Ghodekar received three votes against the 11 votes garnered by Ramesh Shinde. The election was presided over by Mumbai City Collector Chandrashekar Oak in the presence of NMMC Secretary Chandrakant Deokar and DMC Jagannath Sinnarkar. The NCP members who cast their votes in favour of their candidate Ramesh Shinde included Anant Sutar, Suresh Kulkarni, Ashok Patil, Ashok Gawde, Madhuri Sutar, Sampat Shewale, Suresh Saldaar, Sandeep Sutar and Shivram Patil. The surprising element of the elections was the vote of Congress’s Vilas Bhoir in favour of Ramesh Shinde. It may be recalled that in the last elections Dashrath Bhagat and Pranali Lad did not cast their votes for the elections of Anant Sutar and sat as opposition. In fact Dashrath Bhagat had even violently protested against the ruling NCP’s conduct of Standing Committee. However, sighting the reason of their alliance in the state and center, wise Congress’s Vilas Bhoir voted for Ramesh Shinde during the elections. After the elections got over, the new Standing Committee Chairman was welcomed by Mayor Sagar Naik along with the officials and corporators of NMMC.
Speaking to the media, newly elected Chairman of Standing Committee, Ramesh Shinde said that this win was the victory of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. He added that he would walk the footsteps of the minister to bring development for the city. Calling the Standing Committee a very significant committee, Mayor Sagar Naik congratulated Ramesh Shinde on the committee’s chairmanship. On Congress’s Vilas Bhoir voting for the NCP candidate, Mayor Sagar Naik said that the support of the opposition to NCP candidate was the result of the vision and leadership of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik in Navi Mumbai.
When the media posed the question of Dilip Ghodekar making claims of NCP corporators supporting Shiv Sena in the Standing Committee elections, the young Mayor Sagar Naik retorted to the false claims with a taunt. While the elections once again proved that Shiv Sena was indeed again making false claims for publicly, another factor that raised eye brows was the absence of NCP member Aparna Gavte who chose to remain absent during election day of her colleague Ramesh Shinde NMMC Standing Committee Chairman.
