Construction quality of buildings built by Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) would be under scanner of Maharashtra government, said the Chief Minister Ashok Chavan. Chief minister Ashok Chavan recently directed the housing department to formulate a policy for inspection of construction of buildings under the SRA scheme. Taking cognisance of complaints about poor quality construction of some of the redeveloped buildings by the SRA, Chavan has taken this decision. The chief minister asked to make a “defect liability” clause mandatory for all SRA schemes, and a third party audit by prominent institutions. Also, buildings under construction should be checked to maintain the quality of flats. The housing department would soon draft a policy to scan the SRA buildings, and submit it for approval of the cabinet. Bureau report – NMTV News.
