The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has demanded the development of a Central Park and Picnic spot by CIDCO. The party’s President Raj Thackeray has submitted a request letter stating the same to CIDCO. There isn’t any doubt that city planners CIDCO have successfully made Navi Mumbai a super city in several ways, however there are areas, which still need attention. Recreational spots and tourists’ destinations are areas where CIDCO has failed to tap the potential of Navi Mumbai. With the exception of Mini Seashore and a few well developed gardens, there is more than the city needs. Sukumar Killedar – a party worker of the Navi Mumbai Navnirman Sena and a Nerul resident has demanded that CIDCO develop a central park in Sector 26 and Sector 30 Nerul. This area has a holding pond admeasuring 2.5 lakhs sq. mts. and can be developed on the lines of Miniseashore at Vashi with boating and the likes. The adjoining 900 meter plot can be developed into a garden. Being located on the Palm Beach, residents of the city already flock to this holding pond and hence, development of the area should be considered by authorities. Since the area comes under the no development zone, the plot lies vacant with debris being dumped here. The locals of the area say that the chances of illegal encroachment can also be not ruled out. Hence, development of the area as a recreational spot is the only wise option, they believe. The Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray too has written to CIDCO to consider the demands of the residents of the area, following which a team of CIDCO officials visited the area. Sukumar Killedar informed Navi Mumbai News that CIDCO has responded positively to their proposal.
