The residents of Malabar Hill seem to be winning against Bharatiya Janata Party in the tug off war over the proposed motorable road cutting through the iconic Kamala Nehru Park.
The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee has rejected the proposal of the BJP legislator of the area Mangal Prabhat Lodhato give a go ahead to the plan to convert the Siri Road Hilly Walkway into a one-way vehicular road.
The board took the decision amidst massive protest by residents of the area who are aware that the proposal will be tabled for approval of the general body of BMC anytime soon.
The issue is once again seeing a face off between BJP and its ally Shiv Sena that has promised to oppose it when it comes up for discussion in BMC. The project if approved will lead to demolition of the amphitheatre at the Kamla Nehru Park and cutting down 74 trees.
