In a shocking revelation, malaria and dengue cases have been reported from a society in sector 2 of Nerul. Neglect by NMMC has also taken a toll on one life raising concern amongst residents. The civic body spends crores of rupees every year to spray chemicals to prevent the growth of mosquitoes. But no one seems to be supervising whether the work is being done properly or not. It has been reported that more than 15 people at sector 2 Nerul are suffering from Malaria and Dengue and a Nerul resident named Vasant Walavalkar lost his life due to the disease. This has exposed the hollowness of the tall claims made by NMMC about keeping the city clean and disease free. It must be noted that after this incident NMMC has sprayed chemicals and distributed medicine in the area but had the civic body done this work earlier, Vasant Walavalkar would be been alive.
