painting-4Painting is a good way to portray one’s imagination on canvass, something that is very well done by Vashi resident Sudha Barshikar. We captured some of the paintings made by her at her residence and spoke to her about the passion. Fellow artists, admiring students and even head honchos in corporate world, everybody praises her skillfully done art. The quite, humble and devoted homemaker has this great artistic talent to bring life and vibrancy to her canvass. 57-year-old Vashi resident Sudha Barshikar does various genres- abstract, figurative, mural, stained glass painting or sculptures with the 3D look. She has been into art and had a liking for painting since her childhood, concludes Barshikar that she never had a formal training for this. Many paintings, pottery and 3D sculptures in Sudha’s impressive collection depict tribal villagers engaged in everyday activities of their simple life amidst nature and religious icons like Lord Ganpati. Besides painting ceramic pots, she has also started with painting decorative pots of wood. Till now her work has been highlighted at galleries like Jehangir art gallery, Vishnudas Bhave auditorium and NMSA. Recently, she was approached by Stree Mukti Sanghatna of Navi Mumbai to teach paintings to about 20 girls belonging to below poverty line families. These girls work as rag pickers for survival. Sudha says that her family has been most supportive in her endeavors. This is what she has to say to the budding artists of the city. Without any formal training of painting Sudha Barshikar has achieved great heights in the field of art. With Vinayak Dalvi, Vrushali Chitre.
