MLC Manda Mhatre met the grieved residents and apartment owners of B-2 Type Apartments at Sector 2, Vashi to bring about a solution. It may be recalled that recently in a major anti-encroachment action, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s brought down illegally extended sheds and construction at Sector 2, Vashi. However, the action by the anti encroachment dept. came under the scanner. Where on one side, those affected say that the demolition drive are never conducted during monsoons, they add that the drive was politically motivated to force the owners to consent to the demands of towers by a certain lobby here. They say that CIDCO had legalized their shops on commercial basis ten years ago. They say that whether it is the electricity, property or water bills – they have been dutifully paying them all on commercial basis and have further complied with legalities for a small market unit. For years, the commercial establishments are running their businesses from here and the apartment owners never had any problems. These shop owners pay whatever society charges are on commercial terms. Sources reveal that the sudden opposition by a few apartment owners is politically motivated. According to them this is a conspiracy of a few builders in connivance of a politician who has gone on a spree of bringing down old buildings to erect towers in their area. The politician in league with the committee members is harassing the shop owners to either give in to the demand of a tower or sell their shops. This would help pave way for the politician to build towers similar to Swastik Towers. The shops owners have sought the help of MLC Manda Mhatre now. After hearing there complaints she has advised the locals to settle the differences.
