Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is an award-winning author who has authored 14 bestselling fiction and non fictions, most popular being The Great Indian Novel. In his writings, he has penned down the issue of corruption. Speaking to NMTV Deputy Editor Sana Warsia he said, “Corruption is deeply embedded everywhere including politics, part of the origin of black money is in politics as well as real estate and other areas. It needs to be dealt with.”
He added, “If each of us refuses to be corrupt we will bring about the change that could rescue our country.”
He also clarified his stance on taking up the Prime Minister’s challenge of Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan. He said that cleanliness affected everybody and it was not concerned to just one party or an individual. He said, “It was something that Gandhiji started about, why should I surrender Gandhiji to Mr. Modi.”
“I undertook a major cleaning drive in a very filthy beach which we cleaned up and restored to its original glory. We did so with people of the community. It was a Muslim muhallah, the local jamat participated in it along with Congress party elected members and party workers,” he said.
Shashi Tharoor had received a lot of flak from his party after he lavished praises on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was chosen by the latter to take on his Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan. The praises had also cost him his Congress Spokesperson stature and Tharoor was asked to step down from the post. Sana Warsia – NMTV News.
