MPCB observed Ozone Day – that is observed world over on September 16. A book was released on the occasion. In order to create awareness on the importance of ozone layer that protects the earth from the ultra violet rays of the sun and work on ways to stop damaging the ozone layer, September 16 is celebrated world over as Ozone Day. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board too observed this day subtly at their office in Mahape. Representatives from top industries of the state and members of MPCB held a discussion on the occasion. Considering the use of ACs, refrigerators, chillers and other massive equipments that are used by industries on a bigger scale and that are constantly damaging the ozone layer, the MPCB highlighted and urged the industrialists to use water based CFC free chemicals. The meet was presided over by Rajendra Tiwari – the author of “Ozone Story”. The chief guest inaugurated an exhibition on the occasion. According to the author the state is the biggest enemy of the Ozone Layer. The event also saw the participation of MPCB Chief Scientific Officer P P Nadusekar, A D Saraf and others. Unfortunately, MPCB Member Secretary Sanjay Khandare was too busy attending to other assignments and meetings in Mumbai and was conspicuous with his absence, showing just how serious the state is about issues regarding environment.
