Mumbai crime branch arrests 2 from up with firearms

The Mumbai crime branch has arrested two arms suppliers who supplied arms to the underworld. During interrogation they revealed that their boss, Aslam, also supplies arms to naxals.

The Mumbai police crime branch has arrested two persons who are suspected to be the members of a gang that allegedly supplies arms to local criminals. The suspects, according to the crime branch, belong to uttar pradesh. They have been identified as afroze khan, a resident of barabanki district, and mohammed siddiqui aged, a hardoi resident. The duo has been remanded in police custody till may 21.

The crime branch seized five single-shot country-made revolvers, a 32-bore factory-made pistol, a revolver with foreign markings and some rounds from the duo. Himanshu roy informed that the crime branch has always made efforts to stop the supply of illegal firearms at the source. It was noticed that most of these weapons were coming in from eastern up and bihar. In a move to be pro-active rather than reactive, unit 11 of the crime branch was instructed to find out the major sources of such weapons.
