Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport to do survey of bus shelters

Bus shelters on defunct bus routes of Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) are likely to be dismantled. The department will soon conduct a survey of the routes that are no longer operational. Based on the survey findings, the civic transport body will decide on removing shelters.NMMT has around 550 bus shelters that have been given on Built Operate Transfer basis for 10 years in the civic area, Kharghar and Panvel. “Periodic checks of the routes are conducted and the condition of these shelters ascertained before the onset of monsoon.NMMT is also concerned about bus shelters on the defunct routes. “These shelters are made of aluminum that get stolen. They are also taken over by the homeless,” said an official from the transport body. The survey is likely to be completed in a week’s time.Bus shelter
