The card, which will contain a 4 kb chip as memory will display basic details such as name, address, age, blood group, class of vehicle and validity of the license. Half the chip’s memory would have back up of basic information. The other half will have supplementary details of the licensee that is the driver. The card will work on biometric technology for recording signatures and images to prevent duplication or forgery. It will also allow all 46 RTOs in the state to share centralized information. Similar to a credit card in size and looks, the card would have a lifespan of ten years. While the smart card scheme has been launched in Mumbai, in Navi Mumbai the scheme will be floated with the inauguration of the new RTO Office.
