vijay-nahata-1While neighboring cities complained of water logging and tree falling, locals affected by the same in Navi Mumbai were provided immediate relief as the Disaster Management Cell was on high alert and Commissioner Vijay Nahata paid visits to the affected areas to ensure that the sailing for the city was smooth. A team of NMMC DMCs and Addtl. Municipal Commissioners along with Commissioner Vijay Nahata were on their toes all weekend to ensure that water logging and cases of tree falling – the two major problems caused each year due to heavy rains were attended to aptly. The NMMC Disaster Management Team was just a call away and reached sites that needed immediate attention. Water supply however, was hit in some part of Nerul and CBD due to power failure in Morbe Filtration Plant, but a team of NMMC officials got to work and the problem reportedly was fixed in less than 24 hours. Most importantly, this was the first time ever that the NMMC team was continuously is touch with the media and local cable news stations to flash updates on the monsoon work so that residents would be in the know of what was happening, whom to call and how long it would be before problems like regular water supply could be restored. As a result of these efforts of the entire NMMC team led by the dynamic Commissioner Vijay Nahata, the first heavy showers did not give a chance to anyone to complaint. On the contrary, looks like Navi Mumbai did a lot better than neighboring city Mumbai as showers poured non-stop for two days. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Zeba Warsia for Navi Mumbai News.
