There have been 133 suspect cases of dengue that have been registered with NMMC. 80 of the serious cases from these have been sent to Pune and out of the 6 reports that have been sent so far, 3 have been stated as confirmed cases of dengue. A very concerning factor for the city is that NMMC officers and corporators who have tested positive for dengue chose to get treated at private clinics. The NMMC Health Dept did their best to hide the real picture of the dengue and malaria but could not. The mosquito menace, like else where in the country is bad and the failure of ghanta gadi, pollution due to the failure of the Turbhe Dumping Ground and NMMC’s fumigation and spraying process being in a total mess, is only making things worse. Earlier NMMC Health Dept. informed the media that of the 133 suspect cases of dengue, only three were confirmed after tests. What the media found later was that, from the 133 cases, 80 were sent to Pune for tests. From these 6 cases reports have been sent back to NMMC and three out of the six are confirmed cases of dengue. This is from NMMC records while there already have been 4 deaths in KK lst week due to dengue. Even NMMC officers and corporators are not spared. KK Ward Officer Ashok Madhvi, CIDCO Union’s President Nilesh Tandel’s son have tested positive for dengue while Corporator Eknath Tandel too has tested positive for malaria. Ironically, KK ward officer took his medication from MGM Hospital at Vashi and not NMMC Hospital. Though NMMC is advising people to not store water and use nets at home, the larger picture of dirt and filth in the city is yet to be attended by NMMC.
