The NMMC has declared Koperkhairane’s Mother Child Hospital unsafe for human occupancy and shut it in 2012. However, later in an structural audit done by M/s S H Jain, it was found that the hospital was safe for human occupancy and need repair and renovation. Based on this structural audit report, the NMMC administration presented the proposal for renovating it to the NMMC General Body but both times the ruling NCP rejected the proposal demanding that it be reconstructed instead. Post the rejection, the NMMC administration hasn’t changed and presented the revised proposal to the NMMC General Body.
In the last Standing Committee meeting, NCP Corporator Devidas Hande Patil lost his cool over NMMC for ignoring the issue for so many years. Speaking to the media, he said, “The corporators who oppose the Commissioner’s proposals, their work is stalled by the administration.
Speaking to NMTV, NMMC Commissioner Dr. Ramaswami N. refuted allegations of any bias and said, “We have sent the proposal for renovating Koperkhairane’s Mother Child Hospital to the NMMC General Body twice. They rejected it. A decision on whether it will be renovated or reconstructed will be taken only after work on Turbhe’s Mother Child Hospital is completed.”
