The NMMC administration tabled a proposal to repay over 250 Crores of MMRDA Loan in the weekly Standing Committee meeting.
The NCP refused to approve the proposal. They cited the reason that a repayment of Rs. 250 Crores in one go could bring NMMC under financial duress and could also stall public works of corporators.
The opposition corporators however, spoke in favor of the proposal. Shiv Sena members Shivram Patil, Namdeo Bhagat and others questioned the opposition by ruling NCP, pointing out that the Commissioner had assured the repayment of Rs. 250 Crores will not put any financial pressures on NMMC treasury, then why was the ruling NCP against the repayment proposal.
NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Suresh Kulkarni, however rejected the proposal. In a conversation with NMTV, he said that, “The proposal could stall work of corporators who have to face the citizens of their wards. Hence we rejected it.”
