Party president Sharad Pawar wrote to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, and also met him, asking for waiving off the loans taken by farmers in the drought-prone Marathwada region.
Pawar met Fadnavis on Tuesday along with other NCP leaders. In his letter, Pawar had said that he learnt from his three-day tour that the farmers’ situation is quite grim.
“I generally do not demand farm loan waiver. But this year the situation in quite alarming. Due to the drought, farmers are unable to repay the loans. It is beyond their capacity. Therefore, the government should waive off loans for farmers who have had yield below 50 paise. The government should talk with the Reserve Bank of India in this regard,” the former agriculture minister added
