PVT NEWS CHANNELS GET REGULATORY BODY News Broadcasters Association formally launched the News Broadcasting Standards (Disputes Redressal) Authority. The authority would act as an independent regulator to look into complaints against its member broadcasters if content aired by them does not adhere to its code of conduct and broadcasting standards. The NBA dispute redressal cell has the power to suggest revocation or cancellation of a member broadcaster’s license to the government authorities concerned. It will also try to complete its enquiry within three months of receipt of a complaint. BOMBAY HC DIRECTS GOVT TO SET UP SPECIAL COMMITTEE FOR FRAMING ALLOTMENT GUIDELINES Ministers in the state will no longer be able to allot flats or shops arbitrarily. Taking cognisance of two contradictory orders passed by food and civil supplies minister Sunil Tatkare, the Bombay High Court has directed the government to constitute a special committee to frame guidelines for the ministers. The special committee is directed to formulate guidelines and modalities to be followed by the authorities of the state government while deciding on appeals and applications and submit their report in this court in six weeks MUMBAI’S WATER WOES WILL END BY 2021: STUDY The Gargai and Pinjal water supply projects are likely to be completed before time, civic officials have stated. The Middle Vaitarna project is expected to be completed in 2011 and then work would begin on the Pinjal and Gargai water supply projects. Both of them will be completed by 2021.The Gargai project is likely to yield 227 mld, while Pinjal will yield 1475 mld. So, the city will finally get 1702 mld water.
