NMMC ADVISASI HOMES READY AT NERUL BUT OFFICIAL INAUGURATION KEEPS THE HOMELESS WAITING

home-less-1Despite having homes of their own, 17 advasi families at Nerul are livng on the streets due to NMMC. While under a certain a scheme, NMMC had rebuilt their homes but with no requisite permissions, the families cannot move into the new homes and are forced to live on streets. There are around 17 advasi families living at sector 9 Nerul. While NMMC demolished their homes and built new homes for them at a cost of Rs 35 lakhs, the families do not have the permission to live in their own homes after the redevelopment. This is one of the affected families which had two homes registered under their name by CIDCO. And now while their homes are redeveloped, they are forced to live on the streets. Some of the families alleged that NMMC and the contractor were not allowing them to stay in their homes because no one has yet inaugurated the redevelopment work. The locals also alleged that while the redevelopment work was going on, NMMC had not even rehabilitated them anywhere. Even the redevelopment work done by NMMC is lacking with the basic amenities like power supply, water supply and mostly haphazard construction is seen. There is even one family whose home has yet not even been developed by the civic body. Reliable sources reveal that due to internal differences between the Congress corporator and NCP because of which the inauguration of the redevelopment work is hanging in the air.
