NMMC school number 3 at Belapur Agroli village will be redeveloped by NMMC. The size of the school is around 980 square feet for which NMMC has approved a budget more than Rs one crore. The school is situated in Agroli village in which 80 students study. There are two interns with four others who teach in this school. The school was started by NMMC on a plot donated by a villager named Lakshman Patil and now NMMC has decided to redevelop the school. The local corporator of ward number 82 where the school is situated, gave us more information on the redevelopment. For the redevelopment work, NMMC has approved a total budget of Rs. 1 Crore 8 Lakhs 74052. The contract has been given to Ajay Constructions. Along with a computer lab and a staff room, 6 classes will be made for the students. But before the redevelopment programme starts, the plot has been bounded by controversies. Even the corporator has agreed upon this. According to sources, as compared to the total area of the school and number of children, the redevelopment work is done more than the requirement. Under the guise of providing better amenities in the future, this is an open misuse of public funds. Locals allege that this is nothing but yet another nexus of NMMC administration and public representatives. The local corporator has refuted these allegations. While NMMC’s initiative to provide better amenities to the students studying here is right, what is wrong is that it is spending more than a crore on a school which has not even seen an increase in its students’ strength.
