Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has appointed ward officers as nodal officers and come out with toll free numbers for every ward to tackle the menace of debris dumping, putting up of illegal banners and hoardings and for complaints related to unauthorised constructions.
“The ward officers are being appointed as nodal officers and toll free numbers are being set up for every ward where residents can complain about debris dumping in mangroves, any unauthorised construction taking place in their area or if they spot illegal banners and hoardings,” said a release issued by NMMC.
The NMMC action comes in the backdrop of Bombay High Court order to take strict action against those dumping debris in the mangroves which was leading to its destruction. The civic body has also warned that criminal cases will be filed against those putting up banners and hoardings without permission.
Civic body’s warning to those putting up illegal banners and hoardings comes ahead of the Ganpati festival and Durga puja wherein a lot of such illegal banners are put up by activists of different political parties to please their bosses.
In cases of debris dumping, nodal officers have been given powers to file cases against violators as per the directions of the high court, whereas in case of unauthorised constructions, a complaint cell will be made operational at every ward office to deal with complaints related to unauthorised constructions.
Residents can also log on to NMMC’s website and lodge a complaint against any of the violations listed above. Bombay HC has directed NMMC to act against unauthorised constructions in its jurisdiction and also to take necessary steps to curb menace of debris dumping and illegal banners.
