It’s unprecedented in NMMC’s history. Beyond anyone’s imagination, Navi Mumbai is witnessing one of its biggest municipal administrative upheavals since disciplinarian Tukaram Munde took charge of the office of the Municipal Commissioner in Navi Mumbai. From day 1 in office, Munde’s instructions were crystal clear : work for citizens of Navi Mumbai with accountability and transparency. Among many of the decisions he took to check corruption and cleanse the municipal functioning was to transfer officials who sat on plum posts in NMMC for years.
Following the suspension of civic assessor and collector (Property Tax) Prakask Kulkarni and demotion of Dr. Sanjay Pattiwar, the third officer in the firing line is Dy. Municipal Commissioner Jagannath Sinnarkar. Sinnarkar has applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme. It may be noted that Commissioner Munde had removed many cream departments from Sinnarkar’s portfolio and gave him Estate, Vehicle, Swachha Maharashtra Abhiyan for Zone 1. The decision reportedly upset Sinnarkar and set tongues wagging that many irregularities by him had reached the Commissioner’s office. Over the years Sinnarkar was in charge of crucial departments of administration, public relations, Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium, fire fighting, disaster management among others.
Good with words, Sinnarkar never ever under the scanner of any Commissioner in the past while his proximity with senior NCP leaders in Navi Mumbai is known to all. So much so that he was often said to work more for NCP than for NMMC. In order to save his name and tenure from any allegations or enquiries of corruption, misconduct and irregularities, Sinnarkar chose to put in his papers
