The Morbe Dam has overflowed and the moment was marked with a puja in the presence of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik.
NMMC performed the sacred ceremony of Jalpujan at the Morbe dam by worshipping and paying obeisance to the rain goddess. The ceremony was held as a mark of respect to the rain goddess for filling water in the dam’s reservoir to such an extent that the dam has been over flowing due to heavy showers during this monsoon. Eventually the citizens will be supplied with sufficient potable water as eventually there will be no water cuts for the coming year. The Jalpujan ceremony was performed at the Morbe dam by the Mayor Sagar Naik in the presence of Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, NMMC Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede, MLA Sandeep Naik, Standing committee Chairman Ramesh Shinde and other NMMC officials. Speaking to the media, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that this year Maharashtra has been blessed with abundant rainfall which is a positive sign of prosperity.
He added that as the Morbe dam is overflowing, citizens shall be beneficiaries as round the clock water supply will suffice their basic necessity. The minister added that the water source from the Morbe dam is pollution-free and it shall be the responsibility of NMMC to maintain the purity level of the water body. It has been necessitated to main the proper sewerage system in the villages in close proximity of the Morbe dam and construction of the compound wall to control stray cattle.
It has also been necessitated to consider the project of electricity from solar energy. In the end, the minister assured that by March end next year, water supply will reach the far end slums of Digha, villages and city. With cameraperson Vinayak Dalvi, Bureau report – NMTV News.
