The NMMC Municipal Commissioner Madhukar Kokate withdrew the proposal mooted by him, of the mediclaim scheme for the 1,612 employees and officials of NMMC for incorporating a few suggestions made by the general body meeting scheduled on July 18. Employees are presently paid Rs. 150/- per month as medical allowance but a large number of claims for medical treatment in case of accidents and serious illness are pending for long. Hence the commissioner appointed a committee constituting the DMC (administration), medical and health officer, chief finance and accounts officer and auditor to a solution to the pending medical claims. The committee recommended the mediclaim insurance of the employee in lieu of the monthly medical allowance of Rs-150/- per month. Accordingly the mediclaim scheme of eight renowned insurance companies were invited and the scheme of New India Assurance Co.Ltd to cover the employee’s family and most illnesses was found to be most profitable. Presently the medical allowance of 1612 employees and officials cost the corporation Rs. 29.02 lakhs, while the New India Assurance co.
