American popular author Dan Brown gave an exhilarating speech at Sharjah’s International Book Fair being held at the Sharjah Expo center. As expected, the ballroom of the expo centre was jam packed with students and his fans. The occasion was also graced with the presence of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
During his addressal with the crowd, Dan Brown reflected back on his childhood. He spoke on how science and religion was always a part of his life as his mother was the choir for Sunday church and his father was a mathematician. Infact, the impact of science and religion was so much on his parents that their car number plate spelled Query for his mother and Metric for his father.
Living under two sets of belief he realised that science and religion go hand in hand. “Science and religion are partners- they are two different languages attempting to tell the same story,” he said.
He also spoke on his controversial novel The Di Vinci Code, which fell under huge criticism by the Christian community as the book questioned the existence of Jesus Christ as the son of God. “Our duty as reflective people is to spark dialogue,” said Brown.
He said that when human beings can have similar experiences and feelings like the holding a new-born child or falling in love, then why was religion so different. “If we are all so similar why are religions so different? The answer is they are not,” said Brown.
“All world religions have at their core the same basic human truths… Creation is better than destruction, and love is better than hatred.” Sana Warsia, International Desk – NMTV.
