It’s perhaps one of the biggest tests for democracy. In order to garner the public opinion on the Lokpal Bill, the Anna Hazare team is carrying out a “referendum”. The referendum will help decide whether the public are in favour of the version of the Lokpal Bill as drafted by the Anna team.
Interestingly the referendum is being carried out in the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency. It may be noted that HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has won the parliamentary elections from this constituency and since he is the voice of the government in the talks over Lokpal Bill, the Anna team has chosen his constituency.
The people of this constituency will give their say on the Lokpal Bill, including important aspects that have been debated. For instance, “Should the Prime Minister be brought under Lokpal?” and similar questions.
The results of this referendum are expected to be out on July 27. This one is definitely a must wait and must watch.
