The Court Of Appeal rejected the appeal presented by the ex- captain Salman Butt and bowler Mohd. Amir against their sentence.
Salman Butt’s lawyer argued in the court that the cricketer had not even committed such a crime for which he had to face such strict consequences and that since Butt is already going through disgrace and ruin career, the imprisonment is only adding more worse to his name and it’s not even required. Even Amir’s lawyer appealed only for suspension and that Amir was ready to stay in UK to serve any kind of community service ordered by the court.
The Lord Chief Justice along with two other lawyers rejected their plea stating that these cricketers have not only betrayed their team and their country but the followers of the game throughout the world and that if such crimes are not punished severely it would keep repeating which could destroy the sheer enjoyment and faith from the game.
