The city police will soon have a team of 20 legal officers, apart from public prosecutors, to advise them on crime investigations and other legal aspects of a case. The legal officers that would be assembled by the city police will help in plugging loopholes in investigations and also enhance conviction rates. The legal officers will be appointed on an 11-month contract. Legal advisors have already been appointed across Maharashtra and the process in Mumbai has also started. The officers will assist Joint Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners at various stages of investigations into different cases. The interviews for legal advisors and officers were conducted at Mumbai police headquarters in the last week of December. After the first round of interviews, six of them have been appointed, as A-grade legal officers while the rest have been appointed as legal officers. The second round of interviews will start soon and even the post of the Chief Legal Officer to the Police Commissioner is likely to be filled up. Sana Warsia – NMTV News.
