PM Modi to reshuffle and induct new faces in the cabinet tomorrow

After weeks of speculation, the Union Cabinet reshuffle is going to take place on Tuesday, and could see more representation from the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a fou-hour plus meeting, reviewed the performance of various ministries on Tuesday, in terms of spending budgetary allocations and the implementation of schemes in the past two years. He asked his colleagues to ensure the schemes are tailored to benefit the masses.

The announcement of the Cabinet reshuffle was made by Frank Norohna, Principal Spokesperson of the government and Director of Press Information Bureau (PIB), in a tweet.

According to reports, some Cabinet ministers are likely to face the axe in the reshuffle, while other ministers of state might be elevated.

Last week, party chief Amit Shah had also visited PM Modi, fanning speculations. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to leave on a four-nation Africa tour on July 7.

Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls early next year, is likely to get more representation besides Assam, whose Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was a Union Minister before he returned to lead the state government. dna had earlier reported, that intense lobbying has begun in New Delhi.

Sources said the current reshuffle will focus on Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab with around eight new faces expected from these three states.

Even as nobody is privy to PM’s plans, highly-placed sources said discussions so far within the corridors of power suggest that portfolios of those in the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) that involves home, defence, external affairs and finance will remain unchanged.
