Prime Minister Modi made a case for US President Donald Trump by saying it loud and clear, “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar” as he cheered for Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election bid. The spectacle also seems to have been designed to put the President, who is ramping up his own re-election campaign, before the 50,000 Indian-Americans, the second largest immigrant group in the U.S. after Mexicans. The Indian-Americans are the fastest-growing immigrant group in the country. PM Modi has signalled in a way that he has influence over Indian Americans who will turn out in U.S. elections. Considering that Indian Americans are one of the most politically engaged immigrant groups in the U.S., with 62% casting their vote in 2016, just above the overall U.S. turnout rate of 61.4% and surpassing the rates for both Hispanics and African-Americans.
