mulund-dumping-1The reeking Mulund dumping ground has become a political gimmick with political parties trying to gauge as much attention as possible. The political parties are all concerns for its now and are trying to gain credit for it. Developed in the year 1968, the Mulund dumping ground falls under the MCGM jurisdiction. However, today is has become a cause of concern for the locals as the ground is overflowing with garbage that its capacity and the foul smell is making their life hell. It may be recalled that recently the Thane NCP President, Jitendra Ahwad has indicated that if the authorities fail to take notice of this within eight days, litter on the ground would be thrown in front of the houses of Mumbai Mayor and MCGM Commissioner. Then it was the turn of the Shiv Sena party to raise voice against this issue. Seeing this, even the BJP party jumped in the political gimmick. However, since the dumping ground falls under the jurisdiction of MCGM, it was also visited by Mumbai Mayor Dr. Shubha Raul. Present along with her was MCGM Additional commissioner R A Rajeev. During the visit R A Rajeev stated that MCGM owns a plot of 141 hectares at Kanjurmarg which they plan to use as a dumping ground but is still pending approval from the Central Environment Ministry. After a prolonged discussion between the Mumbai Mayor Dr Shubha Raul, Thane Mayor Smita Indulkar, MCGM additional commissioner R A Rajiv, TMC Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre, a committee was formed which would derive a solution for this problem.
