In the Assembly polls of 2014, one of the factors that turned the voters towards the BJP and Shiv Sena was redevelopment of dilapidated CIDCO homes. Soon after taking charge as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadavnis announced that 2.5 FSI would be approved. And he did keep his word. A GR sanctioning the 2.5 FSI was announced. As politicians warred over credit, CM Devendra Fadavnis said in a press conference that it was only credit to BJP.
FOUR YEARS ON REDEVELOPMENT PROMISES UNKEPT
It’s going to be 4 years to the promise and even today not a single project under the 2.5 FSI for dilapidated CIDCO homes has seen the light of the day. And as elections draw near, its not a surprise the ruling front is now looking for reasons and excuses to justify why they failed to keep their promises. Navi Mumbai Shiv Sena Dy Leader Vijay Nahata and MLA Manda Mhatre both blamed ruling NCP for doing politics over it.
REDEVELOPMENT OF CIDCO HOMES IMPOSSIBLE
According to former CIDCO Chief Architect & Planner Dinkar Samant, under the present GR no CIDCO building can be redeveloped.
He says unless the government forms revises the GR post consultatation with stakeholders, no CIDCO building can be redeveloped.
He also advises that this should happen without any political interference whatsoever.
“REDEVELOPMENT PROCESS IS FRAUD”
Social activist Sandeep Thakur has another take on the entire issue. According to him the entire present notification is a fraud.
He says that politicians cum developers cum corporators have multiple flats in JN Type, hence it’s being pursued.
He explains that despite senior officials in CIDCO and UD opposing the same, it was ignored.
Sandeep Thakur says, no matter which government, UD is always run by builders.
He even called the road width relaxation given by the present Commissioner Dr Ramaswamy N as “shameless”.
As for chances of redevelopment of CIDCO homes, Sandeep Thakur says anything that benefits a builder is possible.
NMMC COMMISSIONER IS ON MISSION REDEVELOPMENT
NMMC Commissioner Dr Ramaswamy N meanwhile is extremely focussed that redevelopment under 2.5 FSI begin on ground at the earliest.
