Science comes alive in inspiring ways at city’s largest Science Festival Khoj 2011

DAV Center for Creative Education’s Science Festival was inaugurated at the DAV, New Panvel in a glittering ceremony. The event, organized under the leadership of DAVCCE’s Director Dr. K B Kushal inspires people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the wonder of the world around them. The festival is being held on the theme of climate change this year.

Science came alive in exciting, inspiring and thought-provoking forms at DAV Public School, New Panvel’s campus where DAV Center for Creative Education’s science festival Khoj 2011 got underway. The city’s first celebration of science and technology, and still one of Navi Mumbai’s largest was inaugurated in a glittering ceremony. Present during the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest was Professor Dr. Purushottam Jena from Virginia Commomwealth University, Richmond along with Dr. Usha Nair, Vice President, DAVCMC, Dr. Y S Rajan Vice President DAVCMC, Prof. Bhumitra Dev Vice Chancellor of Mangalayatan University, educationists Dr. Steve Rudolf and Thomas Matthew and DAV Centre for Creative Education’s Director Dr. K B Kushal. The dignitaries lit the traditional lamp to commence the event.

Khoj 2011 is being celebrated with the theme Climate Change and with the mission Save Environment, Save Life. The dignitaries addressed the gathering appreciating the efforts of the school to hold this science festival at such a large scale. During his addressal, Dr. K B Kushal said that Khoj 2011 was dedicated to the memory of Padmashree G P Chopraji with whose inspiration Khoj has been launched and carried forward for so many years. Speaking on the theme of Climate Change, DR. K B Kushal said that the need of the hour was to curb the threat of climate change for survival.

He added that Khoj was a platform for students to learn beyond the classrooms. On the occasion, three book releases were also held which included Tapas, Combating Climate Change and Solving the Ice Cream Dilemma by Dr. Steve Rudolf. After the addressals, students sang a song and performed a drama to highlight the need to conserve the environment. The dignitaries then headed to see the science projects of the students.

This is the first time that Dr. Purushottam Jena visited DAV’s Khoj festival and especially flew down from US to attend this event. Dr. Jena was very impressed with the initiative taken by Dr. K B Kushal to give such a platform to students.
