Navi Mumbai : Breaking the jinx of by polls, NCP has won elections in ward no. 88 at Nerul. NCP’s Shilpa Kambli defeated Congress’s Nutan Raut by 76 votes. NCP’s Shilpa Kambli garnered 1818 votes against Congress’s Nutan Raut who secured 1742 votes. While BJP Shiv Sena’s Saraswati Patil was far behind in the battle with 1023 votes. The by polls of ward no. 88 was a battle of prestige and honor between NCP stalwart Ganesh Naik and BJP MLA Manda Mhatre. Both of them heavily campaigned in the ward to win the elections. After the results, NCP leader Ganesh Naik arrived in the ward to celebrate the victory with party workers. He was joined by former MP Sanjeev Naik, Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik and former Mayor Sagar Naik.
The victory to NCP has however come at a price as the difference of votes are telling a different story. In the municipal elections last year, late Shashikala Maladi of NCP won the elections by 567 votes. This time the victory margin has fell to merely 76 votes. Sources reveal that despite the victory, NCP in Navi Mumbai has a big challenge to counter in the days to come. Bureau report – NMTV News.
