The Navi Mumbai traffic department today is reeling under several problems one being the shortage of manpower as compared to the ever growing population of the city.
With the satellite city growing in terms of development, there is bound to be more people living here and more vehicles on road. One of the challenges for the Navi Mumbai Traffic department is to tackle this growing population. In the last few years, there hasn’t been any new development seen in the traffic department. There is a shortage of man power and equipments which has made it difficult for the traffic department to control and keep a check on traffic discipline. Speaking on these lines, the DCP of Navi Mumbai Traffic department, Vijay Patil admits that there is a shortage of man power which has affected the working of the department.
Several traffic signals in the city are non-functional. Technical hitches are seen especially during monsoons, to which Vijay Patil said that their priority would be to first rectify these traffic signals. He added that the department has also proposed seven new traffic signals to NMMC. The department is also looking for installing CCTVs on traffic signals. While the one at sector 17 Vashi is non-functional, it has submitted a report of installing CCTVs at Palm Beach Road and Thane Belapur Road.
