Shramjeevi Sanghatna led a tribal march to the Thane Collector Office with a demand of district bifurcation in Thane. The morcha also saw the support of the Shiv Sena party also because the President of the Sanghatna Vivek Pandit has recently joined the party. The grand march saw more a lakh tribal people taking to streets and marching upto to the Thane Collectors’ Officer with their demands. The march led by the President of Shramjeevi Sanghatna demanded that there be a bifurcation in the Thane district. President of the Sanghatna Vivek Patil stated that while laws were enacted in the parliament, the policies remained only on paper due to the apathy of the administration. The division of Thane district is being demanded because this area has a lot of tribal communities and the Collector Office’s first priority is the rehabilitation of tribals and reducing the number of mal-nutritional children. Funds are also allotted to them to carry out these schemes but since the region is so widespread with only one Collector Office, it becomes all the more difficult for the administration to work for each of the communities. Earlier, the Distrcit Collector Jarhad also held a meeting with the various administrative heads in the district on the demands of the Sanghatna. He has assured that effective implementation of the laws and policies for the tribakls would be done. The morcha also saw support from Shiv Sena party with the presence of Senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai, MLA Eknath Shinde and members of the Shramjeevi Sanghatna.
