STATE MINISTER FOR HIGHER TECHNICAL EDUCATION VARSHA GAIKWAD ADVOCATES STRINGENT LAWS AGAINST BOGUS INSTITUTES

tane-snippets-5The education sector has a lot of expectations as a young MLA Varsha Gaikwad has taken over the State Ministry for Higher Technical Education. The young Minister was in Thane recently to attend an event organized to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. During her interaction here, Varsha Gaikwad said that there was a need to put stringent laws in place to discourage the flourishing business of illegal and bogus institutes in the state. She also said that laws were the only solution to bring uniformity and control the hike in fee structures in medical and higher technical education colleges. The Education Ministry has being trying many ways of changing the orthodox procedures of syllabus, examinations and admissions. On this Varsha Gaikwad opined that every change must be made bearing in mind the comfort and requisites of students, as they are at the center of the education system. Sub standard work of yet another contractor of the Thane Municipal Corporation was exposed when a part of the under construction skywalk at Kopri collapsed. Fortunately no one was injured in the incident. Instead of demanding immediate action against officials responsible for supervision of the quality of work being done and safety measures being taken at the site, political parties are seen politicizing the entire issue. The particular skywalk in question is being built by TMC and MMRDA. It was at the Sainagar area of Thane where the work of putting a cement concrete slab on the structure was going on and within few hours of its construction, the slab collapsed. The incident infuriated locals that ended up in a clash between them and the contractor’s people. Soon after political parties jumped in the picture stating that along with locals even they had voiced reservations on the need of this particular skywalk. This included the MNS and BJP both. Both the parties went to the extent of filing a complaint regarding this at Kopri police station. Later the MNS also gheraved the TMC Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre. On the other hand TMC and MMRDA passed the responsibility of the incident on each other. The skywalk is being constructed between Thane West and Ashtavinayak Chowk with a total expenditure of Rs. 20 Crores. A public announcement about the skywalk was made at an all party meet. However, allegations are that the construction of the skywalk was started without taking the locals into confidence. From Thane, Manoj Singh for NMTV News.
