STATE PLANS TO MAKE RREPUBLIC DAY 2009 A LOW-KEY AFFAIR

The state government has decided to keep the Republic Day celebrations a low-key affair, in the wake of the November 26 terror attack. There will be nothing apart from a sombre flag-hoisting ceremony at Mantralaya — the state government headquarters — and at district and divisional offices. There will be no traditional illumination of Mantralaya building or at any other administrative offices across the state. The state government has decided to keep the Republic Day celebrations a low-key affair, in the wake of the November 26 terror attack. An order to this effect which will be issued in a couple of days. The state government has also issued a circular asking people not to use plastic flags which are not only harmful to environment but also is an “insult” to the national honour. “Sec 2 of Prevention of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971, has provision of taking action in such types of act. Local police and district collectorates are expected to take action and refrain people from use of such flags. Bureau Report – NMTV News.
