The state government is spending an additional Rs 92 crore to modernise the Mumbai police force. This is in addition to the Rs 36 crore spent by the police after 26/11. An additional Rs 92 crore would be soon used to mordernise the Mumbai Police. The state will use the new amount to purchase 40 bullet-proof vehicles, set up 13 more bomb detection and disposal squads, add 1,000 highly trained Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel, get a robot to detect and defuse explosives and procure other hi-tech equipment. Around three months ago, the state asked the Centre for Rs 102 crore, of which Rs 92 crore has been allotted. Additionally, the police have placed an order for Rs 49 crore worth of boats for coastal policing. Around Rs 2 crore was also spent on revamping the control room. Force One, an elite commando force of around 1,600 policemen, created on the lines of the National Security Guard (NSG), has undergone highly specialised commando training imparted by German and Israeli experts.
