With the city witnessing drizzling in some areas, the concern of the commuters to travel through a subway has once again come back, as courtesy the authorities, city subways have never been water logging free. While monsoons will bring some respite to the residents from the scorching heat, it also brings a huge dilemma for the commuters, to tackle water logging and flooding in their daily routine. One of the most prone sites of flooding are the city subways some of located at Vashi, Sanpada and Koperkhairane. Year after year the subways are submerged in water during monsoons, but the authorities fail to bring about any effective solution for the problem. Our team surveyed some of the subways of the city during which commuters voiced their concern over flooding. Commuters at the Sanpada subway informed that the accidents were a common occurrence here as the subway had very slippery tiles and maneuvering during monsoons always led to accidents. Pumps are also not functional. The height bar of the subway is not even which means if a vehicle enters from one side it would get struck on the other side. Every year, subway horrors return to haunt commuters across Navi Mumbai but till date neither the makers CIDCO nor the caretakers NMMC have done anything to address the technical flaws in these subways beating the very cause and inconveniencing the very commuters these subways have been built for.
