Sudhakar Sonawane alleges “one politician” who isn’t getting his “takka” is delaying work on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Airoli

A former Congress Dy. Mayor from Airoli constituency has come in the line of fire for delaying the work of second phase at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Airoli. His name started doing rounds in the corridors of NMMC, when former Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane lost his cool at the last General Body meeting in NMMC.

“CRORES OF CORRUPTION DONE IN THE NAME OF DR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR”
In memory of the architect of the Indian constitution Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the NMMC built the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Airoli. It’s been 9 years since the project was launched and its still not completed. While a glittering ceremony presided by NCP President Sharad Pawar, RPI President Ramdas Athavle and his then close aide Navi Mumbai strongman Ganesh Naik marked the inauguration of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Airoli, it was only the first phase. Now NMMC has undertaken the second phase of the project that includes work on its interior and marble coating on the dome. And it’s the delay in this work that caused Sudhakar Sonawane to blast the NMMC administration. Pointing out the team of NMMC engineers led by City Engineer have ignored the project, Sudhakar Sonawane made grave allegations of corruption in the project. He said in the house that, “Crores of Rupees corruption has been done in the project in the name of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

“CAPABLE ENGINEERS TRANSFERRED TO TOWN PLANNING”
Referring to transfer of engineers who ensured that the memorial work was executed, he mocked that “they were transferred to the Town Planning Office as reward.”

He continued blasting the NMMC engineers and said, “No Executive Engineer has inspected the work. You can inspect only construction of toilets but are unable to make a memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

Countering NMMC administration’s assurance that they will complete the work within a month, he said, “the work that you failed to complete in 9 years, how will you finish it within a month?”

“IF I SPEAK MORE THERE WON’T BE CLOTHES LEFT ON YOU” SUDHAKAR SONAWANE WARNS MAYOR J D SUTAR
Losing control on his anger, Sudhakar Sonawane alleged that the “NMMC administration has insulted the memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.” When Mayor J D Sutar asked him to refrain from being emotional, Sudhakar Sonawane denied being emotional and warned Mayor J D Sutar in a retort, “If I start speaking then there won’t be any clothes left on you” translating to “exposing the truth on his allegations of corruption.”

“ONE PERSON WHO DID NOT GET HIS “TAKKA” IS DELAYING WORK ON THE MEMORIAL”
It was then that Sudhakar Sonawane without naming the former Congress Dy Mayor from Airoli, said “One person who is not getting his 1% takka is delaying the work.” He clarified in the house, “this person is from outside NMMC.”

“YOU ARE ENTERTAINING HIM”
He said that as a former Mayor he is making these serious allegations. He blasted the Mayor, “that you are entertaining this person.”

“I CAN GIVE RECORDING OF THE PERSON BLACKMAILING THE CONTRACTOR”
When Mayor J D Sutar asked him to think and make allegations as he was a former Mayor, Sudhakar Sonawane said that if needed, “I can provide the recording of the person blackmailing the contractor.”

Former Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane has made grave allegations of corruption. This calls for an investigation as a senior corporator of his stature would never make the allegations inside the General Body unless they were true. At the same time, it’s unfortunate that the NMMC and leaders of Navi Mumbai continue to fail the architect of the Indian constitution Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, in building a Bhavan as tribute to him, on time, without corruption, without controversies. #ZebaWarsia – NMTV News.
