Supreme Court asks Election Commission to consider starting polling at 5 am in view of the Ramzan month

The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Election Commission to pass necessary orders on a plea seeking to begin voting at 5 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. in view of the Ramzan month. It is coinciding with the remaining phases of voting in general elections.

Earlier, a controversy erupted when AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said coinciding of Lok Sabha polls with Ramzan would not hamper poll percentage, rubbishing claims made by some leaders to the effect. Reacting to the controversy, the Election Commission (EC) had earlier said polls are conducted during Ramzan as an entire month cannot be excluded from the schedule.
