NMMC has finally approved the allotment of 11 shops that were constructed 15 years back and were lying vacant ever since. These shops were made 15 years back at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore for the hawkers to free the footpaths from encroachment. But the local people’s disagreement on the tender procedure delayed the allotment and for the last 15 years these shops laid vacant resulting into its pitiable conditions. Therefore, NMMC has decided to renovate and allot these shops. However, local corporator Babytai Patil has held NMMC responsible the worsening conditions of the shops and has alleged that the shops were to be allotted to the local hawkers of Turbhe and that NMMC had allotted some to hawkers outside Turbhe.
