Expressing concern over the change of use of reserved plots in the city, Urban Development department’s secretary T C Benjamin stated that strict action would be taken against it. During a cultural festival in Navi Mumbai, secretary of the City development department T C Benjamin spoke with NMTV that change of use of illegal plots needs to be stopped in the city. Commenting on the increasing concern of IT reserved plots being used for other commercial purposes, he said IT plots are reserved to develop the IT sector because of which extra FSI is also made available to them. Any change of use of IT plots should be investigated and strict action should be taken against it. Although the Urban development department’s Secretary expressed concern over change of use, the truth of the matter is that there are many reserved plots in the city which are being misused. Even cultural and educational institutes (ORIENTAL INSTITUTE CLIPPING) have violated this policy. Time and again NMMC and CIDCO did carry our legal proceedings on plots violating this policy but the action was so feeble that even a common man can see the increasing cases of change of use in the city. Speaking to NMTV News, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata stated that since the change of use cases were more than 10000 in the city, a special drive would have to be started to curb the problem. However, looking at the way the NMMC’s action violators at Sector 19, Vashi has failed; arresting misuse of reserved plots looks quite a difficult task.
