No matter if Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had changed his statements during his election period in which he had vowed to eliminate Palestinian completely if brought back to power, US is still looking forward that the new government formed in Israel would take steps to clear way for an independent Palestinian state by following its two states commitment that he had made before his recent vows.
US expects that Israel would now end 50 years of occupation with Palestine stating that a separate state would be the best guarantee of Israel’s long term security.
‘An occupation that had lasted for 50 years must end and the Palestinian people must have the right to live in and govern themselves in their own sovereign state. In the end we must know what a peace agreement must look like. The borders of Israel and an independent Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps’ as had been said by McDonough, one of President Barack Obama closest advisers.
