VIKHE PATIL TELLS GOVT PLEADERS TO PULL UP THEIR SOCKS

vikhe-patilAs more and more cases remain pending in various courts, Law & Judiciary Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has revealed that as many as 1.6 lakh of the total 10 lakh pending cases are those being fought by government pleaders. Law & Judiciary Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has expressed concern at the high rate of acquittals in criminal cases – estimating it at around 84 per cent – and said 74 per cent of the verdicts in land acquisition cases have gone against the government in the last few years. The minister was speaking at a state level conference of law officers held at the Mantralaya, where government pleaders from district courts and the Bombay High Court, as well as chief presenting officers of the Maharashtra administrative tribunals were present.
