WHERE IS NMMC INVESTING PUBLIC TAXES – TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE WORK APPROVED AT THE WEEKLY NMMC STANDING COMMITTEE MEET

NMTV reports from NMMC Standing Committee and General Body meetings are specifically for those of you who want to know how your hard earned taxes are being spent. NMTV Managing Editor Zeba Warsia reports about the discussions, deliberations and the work that will be carried out in the city after this week’s Standing Committee meets. First a quick glance of what the work that the NMMC Standing Committee has approved this week : * The first proposal to be approved at this week’s Standing Committee meet was that for the development of Krantisinh Nana Patil garden at Sector 8, Airoli. M/s Ekvira Mauli Construction has been awarded the contract for Rs. 13, 35, 682. The contractor has to develop the garden in 2 months. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to invite tenders to repair roads in Sector 12, Vashi for an estimated cost of Rs. 21, 63, 657. * The Standing Committee meet approved the proposal of laying sewerage pipelines of 400 mm in Sector 8, Koperkhairane. M/s Swastik Infralogics has been awarded the contract for Rs. 28, 93, 271, which is 32% above the estimated budget. The contractor has to complete the work 3 months. * The Standing Committee meet approved the proposal of constructing new toilet in front of Padmavati Co. in Digha’s Ganpatipada. M/s A P Construction has been awarded the contract for Rs. 11, 09, 619/- which is 11% above the estimated budget. The contractor has to complete the work 3 months. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to invite tenders to repair sewerage pipelines in Sector 16A, Nerul for an estimated cost of Rs. 24, 96, 786. * The Standing Committee meet approved the proposal of beautifying the pond at the Gothivali quarry at Ghansoli. M/s Ajay Construction has been awarded the contract for Rs. 30, 89, 975/- which is 37% above the estimated budget. The contractor has to complete the work 3 months. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to invite tenders to repair roads in Ward no. 39, Khairane village for an estimated cost of Rs. 22, 38, 703. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to invite tenders to repair roads in Ward no. 38, Bonkode village for an estimated cost of Rs. 14, 96, 958. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to buy uniforms and other equipments for NMMC Fire Fighting Department for the year 2008 – 09 for Rs. 17, 65, 562. * The Standing Committee approved the proposal of the Commissioner to pay Rs. 13, 84, 853 to M/s Ashirwad Construction for cleaning and maintenance of greenery of Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium for the period of 16 Sep 2008 to 15 September 2009. HIGHLIGHTS: a) Namdeo Bhagat objected to NMMC Secretary Chandrakant Deokar bringing in minutes of standing committee meeting held three months ago. Chairman Sandeep Naik assured that Deokar will present minutes of the last meeting in the next meeting else it will not be signed. Sources reveal delay in presenting minutes gives the administration an opportunity to subtly change proceedings of meetings on record. b) On the proposal of building a toy train in Rajiv Gandhi Garden in Sector 29, Vashi, Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik called for the need of having a separate Human Resource Department for NMMC that will help increase the efficiency of officials and bring more accountability. He asked officers to introspect their work and said that the system needed to be revived in the interest of the public. c) J D Sutar and M K Madhvi confessed that the administration brought proposals of public work only in wards that had influential corporators or when corporators blackmailed officers. d) The members praised CIDCO Jt. Managing Director Deepak Kapoor’s lake vision work and appealed that NMMC follow the steps of the dynamic Deepak Kapoor. e) On J D Sutar appeal, Chairman Sandeep Naik ordered City Engineer Mohan Dagaonkar to present the proposal of Belapur pond beautification in the next standing committee meet. At the end of the meeting, Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik gave Diwali greetings to all members. The chairman prayed that in the New Year, the civic body would work together for prosperity, progress, good health and communal harmony in Navi Mumbai.
