While violence in Egypt takes a new leap, President Barack Obama cancels a joint military exercise with the country

It happened in 2011 also, when violence had erupted in Egypt for protests against leader Hosni Mubarak. US had cancelled their traditional joint military exercise with Egypt hoping that things will resume to normalcy this year, but unfortunately the violence in Egypt took up a much deadlier route. Remarking on the violence Obama stated, ‘US strongly condemns the interim governments recent decision. There remained a chance for reconciliation and an opportunity tp pursue a democratic path, instead a more dangerous path had been taken. And in such conditions our traditional cooperation cannot continue as usual.’
Violence in Egypt took a deadlier route when the military tried to clear up the massive sit-ins by Mursi’s supporters. The military attack left around 525 dead and more than 3700 severely injured. After a day of attack all that was left was blood and mourning along with fear of more violence. Kiran Kidwai – International Desk, NMTV
