WITH INCREASING CRIME, RESIDENTS OF SEAWOODS DARAVE FEAR FOR LIFE – DEMAND A POLICE CHOWKI IN THEIR AREA

seawoods-prblm-3Fear has gripped the residents of Seawoods Darave with the increasing number of attacks on locals in the night. Only a recently one of the residents was returning from his work late in the night, when a gang attacked him, looted him and beat him up. Locals say that they need a police chowki in the area. The sectors around Seawoods Darava Railway Station are still being developed. Apart from the massive construction activities going on here, over the last few years the population of the area has risen by leaps and bounds. There is an urgent need for a police chowki here. Anti social elements are increasing in the area. Women do not feel safe going for a walk after dark as there are chain snatchers waiting at the open roads. Once the shops and other commercial establishments in the area shut down, the area becomes completely deserted. Taking advantage of this, a group of 7-8 boys attack and loot locals returning from office late in the night. In a recent incident, Dattatrey Mankobre – a resident of the area working with BEST was returning from work on his cycle at around 12 in the night. A group of 7-8 boys followed him and ran away with Rs. 1200 that he had. They also beat him up till he fainted. Dattatrey was later admitted in the Dr. D Y Patil Hospital. Such incidents have become frequent in the area. Evidently, residents of the area fear for their lives and say that unless a police chowki is set up here, they will face this problem. A police chowki in the area was one of the promises made by local BJP corporator Bharat Jadhav during elections. However so far he has failed to fulfill the same.
